Hi! After an hour of browsing the threads sometime this morning, I simply had to join this wonderful community. For lack of a less cheesy phrase, you guys are a pretty keen bunch.

I was going to post the web address for the DV shorts that I've done and made available in DivX, but I wasn't sure which forum that that short of plug would be appropriate in. If there isn't one, might I suggest a showcase forum for all us budding filmmakers to see what kind of stuff is being made outside our neighborhoods?

That would be a good idea. I'd love to see your shorts but I am on a Mac. Macs don't like DivX (but they can play a small assortment of them). Maybe I'll see if there has been any updated DivX players for Mac.

Feel free to post links to your clips in our DV For the Masses (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=39) forum. The description says it's for theatrical distribution or broadcast, but we don't mind if you put non-pro homemade stuff in there. Welcome aboard,

There's a showcase for videos made with Vegas or Video Factory (both are Sonic Foundry products with no Mac version available). I'd post the link but there seems to be something wrong with it at the moment. The usual format is .wmv, with the odd .mov in between.
I didn't know anyone used DivX for legal stuff anyway. What, if anything makes it better than .wmv?

When done right, DivX is the best high-quality video format freely available. WMV's never turn out right for me.

DivX is perfectly legal, by the way. In fact, the recent "Enter the Matrix" videogame licensed it to encode its hi-qual fullscreen cutscenes.

Macs do DivX.
