Anyone heard any rumors of another DVD recorder to replace the Pioneer A03?

I know that Panasonic has a competing DVD-RW drive on the market. I've also heard that there may be some "blue laser" (high density) DVD-R drives coming up in the not-too-distant future. But I haven't heard anything on Pioneer's successor to the "Super Drive".

I encountered a reference to it once, but have not found any information. It is probably in the wings waititng to be announcd as soon as some real competition for the A03 appears.

I heard from someone yesterday that the A04 is out
now or coming real soon... The only thing he noticed
differently about it was that it burns at a higher
speed. Not sure if there is anything else changed...

Search the web on the DVR-A04. It often appears at overseas sites, and many links come up empty. Some are links to BIOS updates and some pages carry Mid 2001 dates, all of which tend to argue against it being a brand new model. There is nothing on the Pioneer USA or Europe sites. There are some old links to Pioneer distributor sites in the Pacific, but the links are stale and the actual pages have only A03 information.

I've also seen some indications that the A04/104 might really be later production models of the A03/103.

Update on March 1: saw a listing of the A04, appears as though the main difference is that it does CD-R/W at 8x, rather than 4x as with the A03. Not sure if it is the same software bundle. DVD-R is still 1x/2x, and DVD-RW is still 1x.

Starting to see some ads for the Pioneer DVR-A04 (e.g., at ESBuys). Priced a bit higher than the A03, main difference appears to be 8x speed for CD-R/W recording.
