Does anyone have experience capturing to an external harddrive with their cameras?

I know Sony has a DRU-10 (i think thats the name) external harddrive unit. It costs around $1800 and I am tempted. However, it came out long ago and only has 40 gig of space, I would be interested in something newer and bigger for that price.

Could an external harddrive be connected to the camera via firewire and be used to record video?

Share your thoughts, thanks in advance,

Mark

Mark,
Do a search and you'll see this as a frequent topic. There are several units currently on the market such as the Firestore. (The Sony DSR-DU1 disk recorder has a price of $2,350.)

Re; just recording to a plain disk drive, unfortunately there's a bit more to it than that.

I just don't know how much more to it there is and what the experience has been like.

B&H gave me a price around $1,800 and the adaptor that mounts on the camera is another $500

Firestore? Great info, if you find more products like this let me know.

Thank you,

Mark
