I need to rent a "B camera" for 2nd unit and as a backup camera for a shoot soon. The "A" camera will be shooting 24f. Is there any substantial difference between the two models and do you think the XAH1 would suit this purpose?

Also, anyone want to rent one to me for 2 weeks?

They share the same CCD block, processor and optical quality, so no difference.

Our sponsor Abel CineTech has an office in L.A. and they have a rental department.

I called Abel and apparently you are mistaken and they do not have those cameras. Apart from Birns, do you have any other suggestions?

I did rent one from a guy named Michael Fischler of Big Fish Films about 6 months ago, but I can't seem to get hold of him.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Try EVS for rentals in Glendale. I believe they were at one time a sponsor here (based on a few old threads I read a while back), maybe they still are, but I don't see them on the sponsor list.

Just as a side note, be sure to take advantage of the ability to match the cameras custom presets so your sure that they'll be 100% the same.

Dear Kyle and Harry,

The custom presets in the XH A1 and XL H1 are different.

One can not just copy an XL H1 preset and use it in the XH A1 or vice versa.

You can achieve the (approximately or exactly) the same results.

Most of the Custom Presets on the XL H1 go from -9 to +9, whereas the XH A1/G1 use a different range.

For example a +4 on the XL H1 does not equal a +4 on the XH A1/G1.

Just got the XHA1 and want to match as close as possible with my XLH1 too, and see the XHA1 need
more steps to match the XLH1. Since the XHA1 +/- bars have more steps, I guess match more the % of
the two models +and- bars...or?

Thanks

Carl, see my posts at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=81457 -- start at this part: "when you look at the two different scales of -9 to +9 and -50 to +50, it might seem a little confusing as to how they can relate to each other. But when we take into account the increased range of the XH series scale and how it directly compares to the XL range, it actually begins to make very good sense..."
