From the description it looks very similar to the HC7. Still no 24P, no progressive for video, slowest shutter speed is 1/30 for video (at least that's what listed for low light video).

I'm waffling between relief and disappointment. The HC7 with 24p would've allowed me to sell my HV20's and enjoy spot focus and metering as well as a generally all around better cam experience with the HC series. But I also have no reason to go running to eBay to sell my current HC7 rig.

I was hoping the new cam would have progressive modes
my HC1 just gave out . I think I going to purchase the HV30 it has 24p & 30p modes

Yeah. Maybe they not only changed the color for the HV30, but beefed up the contruction as well. Or not.

Just how useful and functional is this supplied software program? Could you capture HDV from the camcorder over a FireWire card into an XP computer, by using it and no other editing program? I have PMB 2.0.05.13150 that came with a Sony digital still camera. It will work with M-PEG1 video and M-JPEG. Is this just an earlier and limited version of 2.0.17 that comes with the HC9?
