I have a Sony VX2000 and will be taking it to Africa on a video safari.
I am concerned about getting close up images. Is there a converter that will allow me to use, maybe a 300 mm lens on this camera? Or is there a better option?

You could get a telephoto adapter. I've no experience with them, but it seems like that may do the trick without costing too much. Search B&H for "telephoto 58mm" and you'll see some options.
