Talked to an Avid Rep at a trade show in San Francisco today and he verified that Avid will be supporting the EX-1 codec very soon. Great news for me.
I also saw the AJA I/O Box which looked pretty cool. Real time conversion from 4:2:2 SDI to Apple Pro Res codec going into a Mac through firewire.
He said at the moment they are having some hiccups with the HQ codec (dropped frames) but they expect that to get worked out.

Also got to A/B (brieflly) an EX with a Letus Extreme nikon adapter next to an HDCam 900R qwith a Pro35. The Ex looked pretty good. Easily could be a 2nd camera to intercut with. People were surprised.

That's great news about Avid! In line with rumours that I have heard. Just to clearify. The problems with dropped frames was with AJA and not the new Avid software, right?

Don't hold your breath - Avid have been promising 720/25p support 'soon' for 2 1/2 years now. Still haven't got it.

They will certainly act faster than that with this, but 'soon' is a relative concept in the world of Avid customer relations.

Great thanks!

I can now also confirm that the Avid release seems to be only weeks away according to a reliable source. I cannot say anything more than this and that I trust my source. Inhaling...holding my breath...

Great.
BTW re the AJA - Supposedly it is working fine with Apple Pro Rez just not HQ. I'm not hip on this stuff, but the salesman told me that regular Apple Pro Rez was still HD 4:2:2 10bit just had more compression than HQ, but that it still looked great. Was that accurate?
