View Full Version : Techniques to Limit Chest Resonance w/ Lavs?

When listening to recordings done with lav mics, I often notice an emphasized chest resonance. This makes sense since the mic is right on the chest.

But is there some way to limit this to make a better match with boomed recordings?

Thanks as always!

eq - that's all. A long time ago, when lavs were bigger, and slung on a lanyard around the neck, they had a built in notch in the frequency response to help. Now that lavs are smaller, then it's usual to mount them to one side to reduce the chest cavity effect. Parametric eq is the simplest way to reduce the problem after a recording has been made where the problem wasn't noticed. I always like on screen drag type eqs for this.
