I have XHA1 25F footage. I want to use Premiere Pro 2.0 to make standard def DVD's.

Normally for 50i interlaced footage I import the HDV files into a project set up using the "DV - PAL Widescreen" preset and set scale to 53.5. However this project preset has an upper or lower field option but not a No Fields option. I could still export a file using "No fields" in the export settings but I want to know if I am losing any quality if I try editing 25F footage, obviously apart from going from HDV to SD - so am I getting full resolution progressive output?

Would a diffferent project setting give better results? Reason I ask is that there is a seperate project preset for 25F HDV as opposed to Adobe HDV 1080 25 (Sony 50i). However there is no Standard Def PAL 25F (or 25P) project preset.

I guess this question would apply to 30F footage too.

However, I should have said, I already have those presets for Canon HDV. However they only allow me a project in HDV 1440x1080 progressive 24F, 25F or 30F.

What I want to do is edit the already captured HDV files in a standard definition project as that is the final output onto DVD and I also have a few clips to add that are standard definition. So what preset should I be using as there isn't one for Standard Definition 25F (or 25P) (or not one that I can see)?

Incidentally it was all shot at a wedding in South Africa. Beautiful country!

Sorry for the misunderstanding / In S-A everything is pretty much 50 i orientated , from the wedding to the broadcast industry.

For having poor results with other methods for 25f , HVD to SD ,I have
invested in Prospect HD / Aspect HD will also do the job. giving you 25f
presets in Adobe (no fields is active) = P or F.

You can download a 15 day working trial version of Aspect to test run and
get the job out.

For 25F work I have found Cineform's products superior for Quality and Time
Management purposes.

As a last resort / edit your project in 25F HDV and frameserve via Virtualdub
to TMPG encoder.

One of the forum members / Jason Livingstone (SEARCH) offers an excellent thread on Downscaling and Quality Methods.

I've been through loads of trials for downscaling and importing HDV files into SD Premiere Pro 2.0 projects works well without any further investment for 50i. I agree that I could probably save time by using Aspect though.

Having found further information - it appears I can just use the normal Standard Definition DV PAL preset. As long as the file is exported with no fields (and not Deinterlaced) then it will still be exported correctly.

Hopefully this may help someone else.
