Not to sound like a complete novice, but can anyone offer me any insight into setting up a monitor properly using the EX1’s Multiformat Color Bars? And by insight, I mean a step-by-step would be nice.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi,

This one is not bad :

I had another one but can't get a hand on it.

The thing you will use most is the "pledge bars" and the blue only function if you have one.

but it is explained. You'll see.

Don't forget the most of the most important : do this in a "dark" room, without perturbation.
Then, try to avoid light and, if needed, push up the contrast ONLY.

Knowing what you're using as the calibration reference might help:

Thanks Sebastien for your reply, but I should have been more clear in specifying a production monitor like a BT-LH1700W or even the camera’s LCD with basic contrast/brightness.

Bob, I also came across that PDF and it’s certainly helpful. And it all makes perfect sense when looking at a waveform.

But in the field, and setting by eye, I’m having a little difficulty. I’m pretty familiar with the old SMPTE bars, but the EX1 is my first encounter with the new multiformat bars. Question: when I’m in Blue Only, which colors/fields should I be using to set my Chroma and Phase?

Thanks again…

Tom
