dear all,
having worked on hired equipment so far, the chance for me is there to buy. the project coming up will hopefully take me from Web to TV. having long fallen for the manual lens option on the xl1s – which i have yet to see in the flesh – I now hesitate, purse in hand, for the xl1s is obviously long in the tooth. starting with building a kit that befits seems a bit daft given that already the xl1s is technically yesteryear. also, getting the xl1s to „dv info standard“ (manual lense, b/w viewfinder, wideangle adapter, xlr) seems just too darn dear (10 grand). so you see, i am stuck with the unanswerable question: which one do i go for? it'll be great to go one tier up, as broadcast cams with lense mount by sony and even ikegami are not that far from a fully geared up xl1s, price wise, but then wouldn't we all if we could blow our entire budget on just the naked cam.

Here is my question: as I am going to aim for TV rather than film market, is there any milage in faux progressive or actual 24p for me as the final product will be interlaced anyway?

I don't know if any TV stations wants 24p (can't imagine they
do). Keep in mind that the XL1s CANNOT do 24 fps and does
not have TRUE progressive mode. Frame mode does some
fancy tricks to get a progressive stream, at the cost of vertical
color loss.
