Hi,
I Need to transform a 16:9 video in a 2:35 but Vegas doesn't have the preset in the pan/crop option... Anyone knows what are the proportions I need?
Thank You,
Marco Maiello

Hi Marco

If you're a PAL user keeping 720 wide - I think setting the vertical height to 445 would give you a 2.35:1 frame.

I think.

I'll try!

you have to take in account of the pixel shape.
if you calculate with square pixel , image width is 768 and not 720.
if you take a DV Pal or DV NTSC, this is not the same either.
Since there is already about 432 pixel height for 16/9 i think there is even less for a 2.35 picture.
currently it is pretty bad to process video that way, since we live in a wide screen world. You better to expand horizontally and/or use anamorphosed video (like a letterboxed 16/9 video or even better a real 2.35 anamorphosed format) for editing and make the final export formatted as you need according the different display available.
the best would be to upscale to a 1280x576 HDV format (720p) with the remaining lines filled with black.

Just take your image width (1920, for HD), and divide that by 2.35. (1920/2.35=817) [(If your Pixel Aspect Ratio is 1.0)].

Just make a new template in the Pan/Crop tool, from the dropdown menu.

I assumed Marco was shooting/capturing in SD - not HD. In SD I don't think you can just devide by 2.35 - you have to take the pixel aspect ratio into account - 1.456 - which is what I did. That gives 1048x576 - an effective ratio of 1.82. Changing 576 to 445/446 ish gives approx 2.35.

But I've never fully understood aspect ratios so happy to be corrected. :-)
