Anybody have any recomendations for a 2X telephoto lens for the XL2. I did a little research last night and could only come up with the cheap ones on ebay and the really expensive replacement lens'. So I thought I would ask the knowledgeable people here. Thanks everyone.

I've never heard of a "2x telephoto lens."

Do you mean a 2X teleconverter?

I would stick with Canon stuff, like the 1.6 extender.

I don't know of any "just put it on and shoot telephoto lens" for the XL2. You would need to get a Canon or Nikon adapter and use those lenses. I had one but have since sold it as I moved to the XLH1.

These adapters, I had a Nikon as I had Nikon lenses, do magnify the field by a factor of about 7.2. The XL2 has a smaller sensor and therefore a 100mm lens will be approximately a 720mm lens when mounted with these adapters.

If you use really good lenses you get really neat pictures. Cheaper lenses will cut your light way down, but will work though.

I used a cheap 1600mm lens and you can imagine how close that gets you. At a distance of about 200 yards it was about the size of a half sheet of paper. 1600 X 7.2, you do the math!

You must have a really good tripod or another surface to put it on or you will not be able to hold it steady. No functions of the camera, like auto focus and such will work too. Focus it very touchy, very minor movements to get focus.

The only other way to extend the reach of you XL2 is with the Canon 1.6 extender adapter or screw on extender. I have a 1.6, but no longer use it as it was not designed for HD.
