I've got to video tape my nephew's wedding and they are going to have it on the beach and I'm concerned about how to get the best sound. I know wind will be an issue, so any input on the best mics/dampers would be best for that, would be appreciated. If anyone has input on what would be the best setup for video taping this, from an audio standpoint, would be welcomed.

Hopefully it's not at the waters edge on a rough windy day, anyway I'd forget the camera sound.

If you want to record both vows, maybe a shotgun in a blimp on a banquet stand positioned back a ways facing up at the couple, and for interviews/comments later. Feed it into a Hi-MD minidisc recorder or something you can rent.

Or put a lav on each into minidiscs they each carry in their pockets, to sync it up later. Don't have mic cables dragging around the sand so I'd keep the audio separate from the cam and you can move and shoot around the congregation during the ceremony. Get some wild, surf sounds while you're at it.

Later put narration over too. Maybe get a Beachboys sound-a-like and lay up some seagulls.

The icing on the cake in this job's audio will be what you do in post.

Good luck.
