Sort of a newbie question here, but can anyone tell me what is a good editing software to use for weddings? I really can't afford Sony's Vegas. Is there a cheaper one out there that is still pretty good? and user friendly

Perhaps you should look into Adobe Premiere Elements. It's a few dollars less than Vegas and if you decide to move up to the full Adobe Premiere in the future you will know the interface.

Also, you can pick up Pinnacle Studio for about $50. You are limited to one video track in Pinnacle, but in the end, if you are a good enough editor it shouldn't matter :)

Gary,
Vegas Movie Studio Platinum ($119) is a very good choice. It's the same engine as Vegas Pro but has less features (limited to 6 timelines-3 video, 3 audio-and no scripting for instance). Also you can get full version of Vegas 7 or 6 on the B&H Photo site for very cheap...I've heard $99...as the latest version is Vegas Pro 8. However, these come without DVD Architect (authoring program). Here's a link to B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?shs=Sony+Vegas+Software&ci=0&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=productlist.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t . Note there is a Vegas Pro 8 CD only for $149. Hope that helps.

Hi Gary,

Checkout Edius Neo. It has many features of the Pro and Broadcast versions, but is only about $99. Here's a couple of links.
