How would you hook up the HV30 to use it as a web cam? Would that be possible? Or would it be better just to buy a dedicated Web cam?

Most programs allow you to use a DV camcorder as a webcam. Just set your DV output on the camera to 'DV Lock' and plug it into your computer using a FireWire (IEEE 1394) cable and select it as an input.

I've used my HV20 in Skype, iChat, and web based flash webcam apps.

thanks for your prompt reply, wes.... looks like it would work.
the idea is to shoot myself --- ah, no --- videograph myself introducing a slideshow or a web video and splice it into the product. im finding it hard to picture the steps, though
