I'm curious, does anyone have any info how many prosumer cameras have been sold over the yeards? XL1(s)', PD150's GL1's, VX2000's, etc...?
Does anyone have info on this, or is it closely guarded by Canon/Sony/Panny/JVC?

Companies don't release figures. Even major retailers won't disclose how units they sell. Any number regarding specific models is pure hearsay.

Some electronic trade associations and photo trade associations track market segments (how many prosumer cameras sold in a particular year). You have to be a member to have access to that information.

So I guess it's not like car sales. OK, I wasn't sure.

How about ballpark ideas for any of these video cameras? Someone has to have a guess. 5,000, 10,000, 50,000?

Numbers for what market? Asia, N. America, Europe etc. I might be able to get figures for N.A. or US.

I'll see what I can find, no promises.

According to Allan, in Japan, the MX5000 outsold the TRV950 by 10 to 1 last year.

I presume the VX2000 outsells the PD150, because it's cheaper and a lot easier to get. Just my guess.

While not a direct answer, here is a quote from recent Nikkei article:

In the camcorder market, gaps between leader Sony Corp and other firms narrowed as the runners-up raised their shares thanks to the release of user-friendly models.
