Vegas 8 crashes on me with .m2t XHA1 24f files, usually on import, thumbnail preview, or putting to the timeline. Is anybody successfully editting .m2t XHA1 24f footage without crashing? Scene detected?

I'm considering getting a new beast as I'm using proxy files along with Cineform which is a whopping 50GB per hour total as I can't even use GearShift with the native .m2t files (scene detected) as it just crashes on the swap and it may be more cost effective to get a new machine if I can edit .m2t files and save $ on storage. Thanks

Heya Kevin,
I found myself in the same boat as you. Could not have come at a worse time. However I have found a work around that might help. Don't import your files via project media. In fact make sure you have the project media window closed at all times. Use the explorer window instead. Locate files you want. Now the only problem is that you don't get a thumbnail preview of files so instead drag ten files at a time or less onto a spare timeline which gives you a preview and select files from there onto your main timeline.
It would appear as others have said that m2t thumnails are crashing project media and Vegas therefore close project media....steady as rock.
hope this helps

I captured with HDVSplit and then just use the project-media import button to get the resultant M2T files into the project. It works perfectly. I even get a thumbnail view in the project media bin.

Cineform is another great alternative to HDV split, as well.

I've captured both with HDVsplit and Vegas 7, both sets of captures crash Vegas 8.
