I know this is the area for cinematic film looks, but I couldn't find a section amongst the topics which discusses music. Most of the stuff I have seen, people are choosing really nice cinematic music. I wanted to know what others are using and what they have found to be the cheapest route, considering I will always need to pay for the music in some form or another. Are there CD's for sale or are you getting them from some online stock library?

While there are sellers of Royalty Free music (some even have varying lengths of the same composition) start your research by doing a google search of Sony Cinescore and Sound Forge Pro. I think you will find it interesting.

Different artists have different standards so be sure to to check that out. I've contacted a few artists for permission on some of my shorts I've worked on and all have been great about allowing me to use their music. Be careful about creative commons material, using it may require you to release your own film under the same licence (the Share Alike licence) and some other versions of the licence forbid derivative works (i.e. using the music in a film, remixing it, etc.)

Basically, there isn't one creative commons licence, but a number of them, and they allow different things.
