Hi all,
this is my first post and I hope that this question hasn't been answered elsewhere.
I've just got a Canon XH-A1. When I try and capture (file transfer?) from the HDV tape via firewire it won't recognise the footage. It works when capturing in DV quality though. I suspect it is a codec related issue. I'm using the default video import in Vista. I'm somewhat loath to start installing codecs willy-nilly but if that's what I need to do then so be it.
Editing software I use is mainly VirtualDub and AviSynth (yes, I'm cheap). Is there anyway I can import the HDV footage without Console and/or Premiere?
Also, do you recommend taking the DV cassette out after use or just leaving it in there?
Any help with specific codecs (preferably open source) would be appreciated?
Laurence
