View Full Version : Change default location of .sfk files?

Just wondering if there is a way to setup a folder for ALL files created during the peak building (.sfk files) in 8b, instead of having them created in the folder where the video file is located. I would find this much more organized.

I second that idea.

It's been asked for numerous times but still hasn't happened :-(
All I can suggest is submitting it as a product suggestion (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/support/productsuggestion.asp).
If enough of us ask for it, maybe it'll happen some day.

I just posted my suggestion on the Sony site...hopefully it happens sometime.

In the explorer window,go up to the top right to the view tab, untick "all files",
at least then when you looking the exporer window the skf files aren't there cluttering up the place.

I can see that being VERY problematic. For example what if you have "sound.wav" in two separate folders, they're two separate DIFFERENT audio clips, and you add them both to the same project. Now you're trying to store two different "sound.wav.sfk" files in the same folder! That won't work.

I, personally, have never seen the reasoning behind this. If I have an audio file added to Vegas, it adds an SFK file. No need to delete it until I no longer will use that file. And then it's IN THE SAME FOLDER as the original making it easier to find.

Otherwise, I have to periodically just delete all of the SFK files in that separate folder - including the ones I'm still using - or very carefully (taking much time) pick out the ones I've just deleted. Then Vegas will have to re-create them the next time I use them taking unnecessary time.

Perhaps I'm just not seeing some "bigger picture".

How about Vegas creating a folder with these files in the same location as the video, but simply in their own folder. Wouldn't that work?

They ARE created in the same folder as the video file. None are created in "some faraway location" now.

What I mean is those files in their OWN folder within the same folder the video is located, so the files are in the same proximity but are not scattered all over cluttering up things.

So there'd be something like an "SFK" folder in every folder that contained a clip used by a Sony product. I guess that could work. Not sure it'd simplify anything.

Jeff, I do what Paul has suggested.....try it!

Sorry, don't see the view tab on the top right. I see the view tab on the left top, but no "all" to uncheck.

Jeff, first of all make sure you're in the VEGAS Explorer window. Then there's a button on the right side of that toolbar which will allow switching between different views.

Thanks for clarifying that Edward. I don't use the Vegas Explorer window.

I don't use the Vegas Explorer window.

Wow, the Vegas Explorer and Excalibur are the two main tabs I use in the docking area! I use that window all the time.

You have forgotten more than I'll ever know about Vegas, I am still stumbling around.
