I found this export function within the apple version of quicktime Pro.
here, i opened up a "MOV" file from the EX1 after the XDCAM transfer software.

i used a 197.4mb 1080-24p file for testing

the export function within apple's quicktime pro converted the above into:
1. a 1280x720 version for itunes as a m4v file at 7.7mb
2. a 852x480 version as a mov file at only 4kb

mind you, these 2 compressed versions are only playable on a MAC with quicktime or VLC.
i have yet to figure out how to play these wonderfully smaller versions on a PC. anyone?

without using FCP or Vegas8 with the native XDCAM files to compress for distribution, anyone with even better methods?

thanks

paul

Hi Paul

I guess the version 2 is just a referenz file. It is just a referenze to your original file.

QT available for Win, too :-) Just download the player from www.apple.com/quicktime

and install. Enjoy.

...or use VLC (on any platform).

Also 4KB cannot be right...

Anything that can play in iTunes can play on a Windows box. Least we forget iTunes, iPods, AppleTV are all cross platform. Quicktime 7 (H264) works on both Mac and Windows.

All "major" codecs can play on all platforms. It's up to the user to have the correct player.

And with Adobe's new Media Player you can even play FLV files from the desktop without wrapping them in SWF.
