Hi!

I want to make some films for web distribution in an NTSC country. I have a PAL XH-A1. Should I convert the camera to NTSC/PAL (400 Euro) or is that unnecessary when delivering for the web? (will the post-converted media be good enough) I work in FCP.

Thanks

It won't make a difference if it's for web only. NTSC & PAL are television standards which have nothing to do with the internet.

The main reason to convert the camera would be to avoid light flickering, right? So that I can shoot 1/60. From what I've heard that can be a serious problem.

Ahem, for the web this is not a problem.

Shoot 50i and it will be cool, everyones computer screens can display it just fine.

If you convert the camera to run 60 in a 50 country - now THEN you have a problem!

Relax, I think you'll have far more serious things to worry about down the track - the camera being PAL ain't one of them.

I work in FCP.

Just in case you would still NEED to do framerate conversions: compressor, which comes with Final Cut Studio, does near-perfect frame conversions. The downside is that it takes time, but the quality is one of the best on the market.

Would the PAL/NTSC thing be a problem for showing stuff on video projectors? If I shoot PAL and try to show it on a projector in a NTSC country. I don't know if most projectors can handle both.

I have never seen a video projector that could not handle pal and ntsc.

Actually, no one's computer screen will display 50i correctly. Shoot in progressive mode if you want to display your video correctly.

Or deinterlace.
