View Full Version : Audio line-out on HD100 pre- or post-compression?

I tried searching on the forums for this one, but came up empty.

If I'm shooting HDV 720p, is the audio that comes out of the "line-out" jack uncompressed, or is it the MPEG-layer audio that is recorded to HDV tape?

I'm thinking about connecting my Zoom H2 to this port, so I can have dual system sound and an uncompressed master to go with my HDV audio. Will this work?

Also, has anyone done a test on the HD100's mike pre-amps that would compare them to an industry standard, like one of the Sound Devices mixers?

If you're recording audio at the audio out jacks at the same time as rolling tape in camera, it is BEFORE the audio gets encoded to an MPEG stream.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Time to see if I can jury-rig something to attach my Zoom H2 to the back of my camera!

Unless I'm mistaken, the level coming out of the RCAs should be at "Tape Out" level or -10dB, which isn't QUITE Line level but it's "close".
