hi,I'm very seriously thinking of upgrading to a 17' MBP 7200rpm, 4Ram, 2.6processor, 200gig.
Would that be a viable HDV mobile editing system ? of course with ext. hard drives.
My 15" 2.16 MBP just doesn't appear to handle it despite the fact that I was told it would.

What is it about your current MBP that isn't handling HDV the way you would like? You should have plenty of horsepower there to do HDV.

I have the MBP you describe and it does XDCam HD no problems.

the display is far too jumpy/jerky & the Apple tech told me that this was due to the 2.16 processor being overworked with hdv & 2gig ram just wasn't enough.

Weird- I've cut on that exact machine with HDV and had no problems. Well I mean once you start adding in filters and effects and such you're going to get reduced frame rates but not impossible to edit with.

Hey Hubert,

I have that exact laptop and love it. It chews up HDV with no problem.

I have the 17' MBP, 2.16 Ghz processor, 1GB Ram, 160GB 5400 rpm HD (much the same as your 15" just with a bigger screen) ... and it handles HDV and XDCAM HD easily

My wife will cut HDV 1080P on her first gen macbook core duo with no problems, with only 1.5 gb memory and the built in video card, so your MBP should be fine.
