Apple has made a decode-only version of their ProRes codec available for both Macs & PCs. Previously it was only available on Macs which had Final Cut Studio 2 installed. It requires QuickTime 7.5 to be installed.

For Mac:
Apple - Support - Downloads - Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder 1.0 for Mac (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/appleproresquicktimedecoder10formac.html)

For Windows:
Apple - Support - Downloads - Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder 1.0 for Windows (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/appleproresquicktimedecoder10forwindows.html)

Great to know that there are now more options for delivering in the Pro Res codec (great codec) to people from the PC world or consumer Mac-users. Great move, Apple.

Nice find, Jason! Thanks for posting the link to that.

any chance this will allow people with fcp on their machine to view hdv files? if not, does anybody know a way to do this without having to transcode?
