Has anyone tried to use Adobe's Onlocation CS3 with the HPX500? Onlocation uses the IEEE1394 interface but the HPX500 does not output video through its 1394 interface (only data). Correct me if I am wrong here.

As far as I know, your should get the full 4:2:2 out of the firewire port except the Pn modes.

What Tim said. I use Scopebox on the Mac (same concept) and all modes except PN work.

I don't know about the 500, but the 200 has a 1394 "device" mode, and a 1394 "host" mode. The host mode writes directly to a 1394 HDD, so I would expect you need to be in "device" mode.

I am interested in this, too, because I want to run a Firestore off the firewire port for recording DV files as I shoot. Some claim the only hard drive to work is the Firestore FS-100, but I feel this is the case ONLY if you want DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO50HD files to be sent out and recorded from the firewire. I will be happy with straight DV SD files.

Well, after getting my 502 today, I can say that the HPX502 can play out of its firewire connector in real time and capture that playout in real time in Final Cut Pro. This is AS WELL as a simple file import from the camera.

So the answer is, yes, video can be played out of the firewire port.

And, by the way, isn't the video coming out of the firewire port SUPPOSED to be data?????

Were you in device mode when you captured video directly from your 1394 port? I am still having problems seeing the video.

But full uncompressed HD 4:2:2 1080i, ain't that way beyond what FW400 are capable of, HD-SDI territory?

Has anybody used this program with a macbook pro. just wondering if there was any problems with it before I purchase.

On Location is a Windows only program. You would have to have Bootcamp or somesuch. Scope Box is the Mac alternative.
