I want to give some files for a short film to a guy who runs FCP on a Mac - I run CS3 & cineform on a PC.

I've got a 60gb usb drive and I'm wondering what's the best way to import then export to an FCP friendly format?

I've done a search and the posts seem to all be for the other way around

you could just give him the tapes and the time codes for the scenes and do a batch import straight into FCP

Yep - but I'd have to give him the camera too (shot on XH-A1 @ 25p) - he has an EX-1
and waste a couple of hours of his time.

I'm actually thinking of getting a 'loan' copy of FCP, putting it on my mac laptop and doing it that way

1. Cineform files are cross-platform, you can edit them in FCP by installing the Cineform decoder. I believe Cineform QuickTime preserves the original timecode.
2. Another option - download the HDV .m2t files on the PC. The files can be re-wrapped to QuickTime files using ClipWrap (http://clipwrap.com/) on the Mac.

Note: If you need to go back to the PC, you could use the Cineform files OR you could convert the video to ProRes on the Mac and install the ProRes decoder on the PC.
