View Full Version : Shot Transition

One of the more innovative functions Sony's come up with is the Shot Transition. Play with it and you'll see what I mean. You want a motion control dissolve zoom? Shoot the same scene twice with Shot Transition and mix it in post. Anyway, the ramping feature on my Z1U shot transition was impeccable. Completely smooth. With both the EX1 and EX3 the ramp is jerky. So much so that it is unusable at higher speed. It's not as noticeable if you use the single ramp at the back of the shot but compared to the Z1U . . .it bites! That said, the EXs' still rock.

Does anybody know of an official "Firmware Upgrade Suggestion Box" I can forward this to?
Thanks,

-Tony

I used shot transition on a shot last week and it looked very nice in the viewfinder. I used the single ramp at first but liked the ramp on both ends better. Think it was 20 sec shot,so maybe that's the difference. Are you saying on a shorter shot it wasn't working for you? I'll have to check it out on the big screen.

Yeah Mike,

Try a 6 second zoom from both ends of the lens.

I loved Shot Transition on the Z1, absolutely perfect implementation (though would have liked even slower and faster speeds), and yes - the EX1's implementation in comparison is a bit of a joke. I can almost feel the atmosphere of slight resentment as the lens team and the camera team tried to get a feature to work that they considered 'beneath' this class of camera.

Not understanding how cool it is to pull shutter speed, white balance et al as well as focus and zoom.

My EX1 is with Sony at the moment, having 1.11 installed amongst other things. The moment I get it back, will test out shot transition and see if it's improved.
