I coach high school football and run the video stuff. recently purchased a canon hf 10. Imagemaker is fine for simple cuts and burns, but we need a little more.

The only things i need are the ability to speed up and slow down a clip and add a spotlight.

I have an underpowered computer at school, p4 3ghz xp3 pro 2gb ram, 300 gb drive

I will only trim clips, speed some up, slow motion for some hits and spotlight for action not in center of camera. Then add music for a highlight film.

If i have to upgrade, i will see what i can do but its hard through a school budget

I do much sports editing these days and I currently use Sony Vegas Pro 8 and that has the effects you wish. I used version 6 before the pro 8 I am using now. You can find version 6 just about anywhere and that will do what your looking for. If your looking to use HDV clips at 1280 by 720 then I believe you have to use pro 8, it has been awhile since I used version 6.
