I just wondered if anyone knew of available software or settings within FCP that would allow you to automatically create two separate versions of ingested clips. Effectively creating one file for the project itself on one external hard drive and another back-up file on a secondary hard drive while the auto-save vault would keep the project on the computer's hard drive.

I know DVSolutions has created such a programme for the BBC. Unfortunately - it's only been written for PCs/Avid EX interfacing. When will they learn?!

Any ideas?

Mac OS X 10.5 offers a folder funtionality to does just that and there is a built in utility called Automator
which is also capable to do just that. But you have to "script" it on your own.

Works great for all kinds of stuff. Offers automation (date/time/frequency), different targeting (specific volumes, partitions or folders) and copying options (erase all and re-copy, copy new only and archive the different stuff, update new and delete different content) and it's free.

It's not just for backing up your system files.
