I tried to download a video on to youtube today and the results were atrocious. The video was shot in 720p 30. widescreen exported out of FCP.
This is the conversion process I used.
Went to File, Export, and chose Using Quicktime Conversion. Format Quicktime movie. Clicked settings, and under compression type I selected H264
Size. Clicked the dimensions tab and clicked on CUSTOM. Exported at 480 X 360,
Set letterbox.
Final Cut Pro Web Export Audio
Encoded the audio. Made sure Sound is checked and clicked on settings. Under format select IMA 4:1.
Under rate selected 22.05
In the past these settings resulted in a very good quality download but today they were very bad. I went back and reviewed an older video that I had downloaded a while back and it appears to have lost a substantial amount of quality from what it was when I originally downloaded it.
Has youtube reformatted? I did notice the viewer window is larger then what it had been in the past. Did youtube reformat it for a larger screen thus rendering these settings obsolete?
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to remedy this problem?
