Here's a trailer/short highlight clip of the wedding we did last weekend. We ran the 1000's in 30p all day. Also used a Canon HV30 for the back cam, I used one shot from it in the trailer. The lights were way down except on the altar. No light was used for the first dance and it was pretty dark at the reception too, as always.

Thanks Jeff, the moving shots were made with the Steadicam Merlin. The canon shot is at about the 1:07 mark.

I don't know if it's because I now own one of the cameras that does the rolling shutter, but I think it's less distracting than having the full screen filled with the flash. In some frames only 1/4th or less of the screen is filled and it happens so fast.....it's not that noticable. I'll have to wait and see if any of my clients notice the rolling shutter.

I couldn't agree more! The video looks great and that's what your cleints will notice. They'll never ever see the rolling shutter. As I was playing it at normal speed, I never noticed it myself. I doubt your clients will do freeze frames at precisely the flash point.

People seem to forget that when flashes go off with CCD based cams, the exposure is whacked.

BTW, I thought the music was pretty funny for a wedding!

It's also the theme from Cold Case!

Why 30P? they are not in blu-ray spec, if you are planing to do blu-ray later with these,then stick with 60i or 24P

R yes, this is a beauty and I would think a great thing for weddings. Friends of mine have the Merlin and it really works very well.

A question for you guys. If you wanted to deliver a true HD copy of a project to a client, how would you go about that...in other words, what format would you use? You can't deliver it in HDV since the vast majority of clients with HDTVs won't have a means of playing an HDV tape.

It would seem you would need to convert it to something like AVCHD for playback on a Blu-Ray player.

I don't need AVCHD to burn a Bluray disc. HDV timeline from PP CS3 to Encore CS3 works just fine.

Oh yeah. BTW Tim good video. Loved the music. There were a lot of flashes throughout but I only noticed the one frame of banding that KC pointed out. I have no doubt that a customer will never notice it or complain. I wonder if a CCD camera would have handled the other flashes as easily without blowing out the whole frame?

You said you used the merlin - the z5 seems to be heavier than my former vx2000 - could you post the merlin settiings (positions/weights) and how the cam was set (mic? battery?)

I'm pretty sure the merlin is maxed out with the 1000. I use the 730 battery, no light and no mic. I had 1 finish weight in the forward - 2 finish and 6 mid in the lower. Arch wide open, 12 3/4" I think. I believe the guide ring is also maxed out.

Looks like the Z5 is about 8oz heavier than the 1000. It might work but I wouldn't bet on it.

I´ll give it a try - I am pretty sure to buy the z5 , finally will have a loaner unit next week.
