View Full Version : Motorized tripod head?

Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap, , remote controllable, motorized tripod head? I need something that can do the following:

- rotate (up/down, right/left)
- save presets (so with a single press it goes to a predefined placement)

That's all I can think of for now. Would be cool if it could zoom the camera (HG20) as well but I don't imagine there is any integrated solution that can control a tripod head and the camera (speaking of which, I wish the HG20 was fully controllable from the computer - has anyone hacked these Canon camcorders to implement something like that?)!

thanks,

brian

In the EX forum there have been users using telescope tripod heads for this. Here's a link to get you started: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/special-mounts-applications/123980-timelapse-motorized-tripod-head.html

A search brought up this link Weatherproof Motorized Pan and Tilt Systems, Indoor-outdoor Motorized Heads, Wireless Remote Controls, Automatic Scanning, at 21best.com. (http://www.21best.com/21_best/electronic/security/video/pan_tilt/for_sale_.html) I think some are engineered to work with Sony Lanc control so the consumer Canon's will not have the control for camera control but the rest will work.

I had come across that one at 21best.com but to get presets you have to get their $600 outdoor version. It looks way overkill for my needs.

Now that one at telecope.com looks promising but the link didn't work.

If you mean this one Orion TeleTrack Altazimuth Tracking Mount - Telescope.com (http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=mounts_and_tripods/~pcategory=accessories/~product_id=09441) it works fine for me...

This is probably overkill for what you need, but it's pro level, and you need a DMX controller.
