i have always used vegas for avchd...fine but a bit sluggish...i also use fce 3.5hd and was thinking of upgrading to fce 4 which handles avchd...anyone have any thoughts on fce 4 avchd performance with 2gb ram ?

My understanding is that you have to have an Intel Mac and the latest version of FCP to deal with AVCHD. And, it has to be transcoded into ProRes422 or AIC.

Both FCE 4 and iMovie 08 can handle AVCHD, they get converted to AIC.

You also need and Intel MAC

yes i have an intel mac ... i know the avchd files get converted when capturing to fce 4 or fcp 6.1...i was looking to see if anyone has any insight to the performance when editing...on vegas it can be choppy and sluggish but workable...was wondering if the converted files on fce 4 make it smoother...

It is like DV once it get converted to AIC.

I have a iMac Core duo with 1.5 GB and have no problems at all.

great...was hoping it would be smoother to edit once converted ....

Itīs really great.

The only "problem" is that the convertion takes some time.

I have a 1.83 Ghz imac Core duo and with iMovie 08 it takes about 3x to convert, so 1/2 hour takes about 1 1/2 hour to convert.

Maybe FCE 4 is faster, I only have iMovie 08 and FCS 1 so I donīt really know the time it takes with FCE 4

Cheers

Hans

i guess it depends on ones setup...i have heard mixed reviews on how smooth editing might be after the avchd files are converted to aic...on vegas using the vasst Upshift conversion editing is real smooth...but i like to use fce also and just trying to get as much feedback as possible before upgrading to fce 4.0
