I hope i can explain what i am trying to do here, i have done a search, but perhaps i dont know the correct terminolgy yet.

When i want to split a video at a certain point I need to be able to go frame by frame to do that. In my last editor or Windows movie maker i simply click the right or left arrow to move to the next frame.

I have learned that if i use the right and left arrow keys i can advance left or right, but i am moving back and forth at about 3 seconds each click. Is there a way to set this to a frame by frame, etc??

Just press Alt with the L or R arrow and you will move a single frame at a atime.

Also, the frame advance works by how far zoomed in you are. If you zoom in it will switch to 2 or 1 frame at a time.

The arrow keys move one PIXEL left or right. This can be one OR MORE frames depending on your zoom level. The farther you zoom in, the fewer frames an arrow key will move. The farther you zoom out, the more frames an arrow key will move. So the two main options to go one frame at at time are at use ALT-Arrow key (as Richard mentioned) which will always go one frame at a time or zoom in on the timeline. A third solution would be to use a shuttle wheel like on the Contour Shuttle Pro.
