Rookie needs assistance ;)

I'm working on my first video project, new to Mac, imovie 08, etc.

I have captured a lot video in imovie 08. A friend of mine needs it for a video project (asap), he's using Final Cut Pro. I don't have FCP software.

I see in imovie 08, I can export to final cut xml. I'm assuming I need a copy of FCP to import. I'm assuming I can't just send him the xml file for him to import. Am I correct ?

I'm thinking I should just purchase Final Cut express and do the importing from imovie 08, then send him the file via ftp (he's in a different state).

What would be the ideal workflow to get him the footage ?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I just tried capturing HDV into iMovie08.

The resulting files are AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). I used the Full setting, resulting in 1920x1080i60. This will work great in FCP as is, no need to export anything. Although I must say I haven't actually worked with the files in FCP yet...

so your workflow might be capture in iMovie, rename files per some naming convention (tape name, scene, take, date etc), then send out.

I just captured 62 minutes@38GB, so keep that in mind when considering FTP or other. Capturing to HDV would be less, but still huge for over the 'Net.

Send him a cheap hard drive via courier/post.
