Chris Barcellos February 12th, 2009, 03:02 PM Mike: Thanks for the links. Blood spatter already came in handy !!
John Adamczyk February 14th, 2009, 02:09 PM What exactly would the use be for these in vegas?
Jon McGuffin February 14th, 2009, 02:29 PM Excellent sources!
Thank you again!
Jon
PS: They can be used in Vegas as... backgrounds... :)
Mike Kujbida February 14th, 2009, 03:22 PM I create frames in Photoshop for some of my images and use textures for that purpose.
You can use them in titles (instead of a plain or gradient colour).
As Jon said, they're great for backgrounds in Vegas.

. . . also for creating lower thirds. Oh, and for compositing to create 'textured' text (extremely useful).
Buba Kastorski February 18th, 2009, 08:58 AM Many thanks Mike!
Ron Chau February 18th, 2009, 03:44 PM Does anyone have sample videos using these textures ? For some reason I'm having a difficult time picturing a textured background or titles.

Ron, here's a quick and dirty idea. With a bit of effort this could look quite cool!
I used a 'dirty concrete' texture to composite the text. To give it some more interest I used pan/crop to move the window on the texture image a little. The landscape background is also from CG Textures. Obviously I added the lens flare, red tint, glow, light rays etc in Vegas. If I was doing this for real I would do some prep in Photoshop but these were just straight from the website and into Vegas to give you a rough example.
OK, I'm gonna have to come back to you - the forum is telling me that my 1.25Mb wmv is too large!! I'll post a link somewhere and let you know.
Ian Stark February 18th, 2009, 06:46 PM Hell, Vimeo fell over about six times, my own website didn't want to play, so I'm left with YouTube! And now I discover it doesn't like my widescreen video much. Sigh . . .
Oh well, just for the hell of it, here is a link to the 15 second clip I mentioned above that has taken me over an hour to post. Sorry it looks so naff. Sigh again . . . YouTube - Holiday Mars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnjblAgMnlA)
Ian . . .
Ian Stark February 18th, 2009, 07:37 PM And for anyone vaguely interested, here are the original textures I used.
James Hooey February 18th, 2009, 08:16 PM Nice finds Mike, thanks for sharing!
Ron Chau February 19th, 2009, 08:41 AM Thanks Ian. Looks great.
Ian Stark February 19th, 2009, 08:49 AM Thanks, Ron. Love your shark vid btw. Very cool. Now, all you need is some textures . . . :-)

Maybe the blood spatter that Chris referred to earlier?
:-)
In all seriousness, I'm glad that folks are finding these links helpful.
