In the Audio mode setting of the Z5 it says that you have the option to record in the 12-bit mode (2 stereo sounds) or to record in the 16-bit mode (1 stereo sound with high quality). What does it mean "2 stereo sounds"? or "1 stereo sound"?
and what settings are you guys using?

In 12 bit mode, you will be recording a stereo sound in channel 1. After your shooting, you can dub another stereo sound in channel 2 without erasing the original sound you have shoot, so you have 2 stereo channels.

In 16 bit mode, you can only record one stereo channel on the track and if you dub the tape with different audio, the original track will be erased.

I can't find a bit mode to choose from on the Z5. I mustn't have it.

But if you do a shoot with two mics attached to the cam, ie using both mic inputs, what are the best audio setting options? One mic on the left and other on the right is obviously no good.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Leave it in 16 bit, it's higher quality. It may also say 48k. It doesn't matter whether you're recording on channel 1, 2 or both.
This setting is probably what 99% of people use

Page 77 of your manual.

Thanks Adam. I note that page 75 of my manual tells me that in HDV mode, sound is autiomatically recorded in the FS48K mode - which is not clear on the sidescreen as to what that means. So it's 16 bit.

I'll experiment with using two mics and seeing where the sounds go.
