I recently film a show with NYC Ballet dancers as guest artists. The 1080i is amazing for clarity. But then suddenly, every once in a while, as they move legs or arms the image breaks into pixels, or the edges of the legs or costumes. When they stop moving or slow down the pixel breaking goes away. As I said it's not constant, just every once in a while. Seems to appear with whites and reds.

Any pointers or ideas with this would be helpful, especially shooting things like this that are more like shooting sports.

Michael - most of the recording which I do is sports, including dance, and I strongly recommend that you record in 720p rather than 1080i. The resolution difference is minimal, but the progressive frames tolerate motion much better than the interlaced format. I almost alwys use 720p at 60 fps and the results are excellent.

Michael,
I have seen that effect when watching HD at the store trying to buy a set but not on footage right out of a camera. what monitor/signal are you using to evaluate. What Frame rate did you shoot with?
