This question is for everyone who has succeeded in demuxing .m2t files on the MAC.

What solutions have you used to do this?
If you could list the name of the app and perhaps the url where you can download or buy it.

My understanding is that after demuxing one can convert the HD footage in usable HD Pixlet codec to edit in FCP 4.

All right, I will cover it as well as can be:

firewire SDK (the software development kit from apple) can be downloaded from this adress: http://developer.apple.com/firewire/index.html Since you have Panther (if you want to use Pixlet) you will not need this because the components are supposed to be included. But for those not using Panther, you will need that. It has the utilities to record the mpg2ts to disk and back to tape, the utilities are virtualDVHS and DVHScap, any of the two will do but virtualDVHS will let you batch output (witch is cool right?)

mpgtxwrap is a utility to de-multiplex (or separate audio and video) the TS files, in the options choose demux and choose a name other than chunk for the finished demultiplexed mpeg-2 file and mp3 file. http://www.biermann.org/philipp/mpegcut/

After that you use mpeg2decX witch is nice since you can put a batch to convert in quicktime. And then you transfer the footage in FCP for editing. http://homepage1.nifty.com/~toku/software_en.html

These will do the trick very nicely.

I'm confused how Pixlet is supposed to take care of the whole process.

Based on what I've seen so far, Pixlet only allows you to convert video to this efficient codec. But if the video can't be opened by QT, there is nothing Pixlet can do.

Am I totally off here?

Pixlet is a codec, not a HD10 all-in one solution, you are right, still it will help edit and show on the computer. As it is a QT codec, it should work fine but you need to recode the original TS files to a QT understandable format.

That's the way for now.
