View Full Version : Script for batch encoding possible?
Glen Elliott October 28th, 2003, 11:11 AM I'm wondering if it's possible to create a script to do batch encoding in Vegas. Batch encoding meaning if I have, say, an hour of footage I need broken up into 20 separate mpgs is there any other way than to manually render each section out manually. I wish there was a way to set it and forget it and let it do the work rather than having to set up the encoding for each and every mpg.
Edward Troxel October 28th, 2003, 11:29 AM Yes there is.
Probably the BEST option would be to purchase Batch Render Pro (http://flash.to/rmtools)
There's also my "Render on Markers" script that could be modified for whatever output format you are wanting. It can be downloaded from http://www.creativecow.net/articles/vegas_scripts.html
Others may be available at the Sundance site.
Glen Elliott October 28th, 2003, 01:25 PM With your script I would have to remove the extraneous footage in between the clips? For example say I have a 5 minute clip and I want two mpgs from it. One starting at 1;00 and ending at, say, 2;20....and another starting at 3;10 and ending at 4;05. I would have to manually remove the footage before the first marker where I want the first render to start, the footage between the two clips, and the tail after the 2nd clip.
Lastly, how do you render Regions? I only saw the option to render loop region. I think this is how that product you mentioned works.
Can you write a script that can render only footage in various regions in a single clip?

Yes.
It appears Batch Render Pro will do what you want. Here's one of the listed features:
Render regions, optionally naming the rendered file from the region label.
Glen Elliott October 28th, 2003, 07:21 PM No..I was wondering if YOU could right a script like that? *pretty please*
Edward Troxel October 29th, 2003, 08:49 AM Well... actually, YES I could :-)
Glen Elliott October 29th, 2003, 02:13 PM You da' man Trox! Mabye in a Tsunami upgrade- that is if your going that route....routinely updating Tsunami with new scripts.
I'd love for Vegas to have the same funtionality that makes Canopus Procoder so popular!
Edward Troxel October 29th, 2003, 02:52 PM Did you check your e-mail?
Cosmin Rotaru October 31st, 2003, 11:53 AM I'd love to have that script, *pretty please*! :-)

Edward Troxel November 1st, 2003, 07:11 PM I put it on my website. You can find it at: http://www.jetdv.com/scripts/RenderOnRanges.js.txt
Glen Elliott November 1st, 2003, 08:52 PM Edward, maybe you should refine the script and add it as an update script to Tsunami.
Edward Troxel November 1st, 2003, 10:39 PM Yes, this one is definitely a "rough" version. If I choose to add it to one of the big scripts, I'll definitely clean it up a bit.
