View Full Version : autosave vault
Gary Chavez November 6th, 2003, 12:01 PM sorry, another newbie qusetion.
my auto save vault has 29GB in it.
what happens if i move all the folders to trash and delete them?
looking to free up space.
thanks
Ted Springer November 6th, 2003, 12:47 PM If you aren't working on any projects, then I'd say you'd gain some free space.
Gary Chavez November 6th, 2003, 03:52 PM so then, it will not blow out the saved but video/audio off line less completed projects?
thats my fear.
Mark Newhouse November 6th, 2003, 10:39 PM No, the Auto Save Vault is just a storage area for the files that FCP automatically saves for you every 30 minutes (or whatever you've set it to). In fact it starts to clean up after itself, deleting the oldest files first, as it fills up.
Gary Chavez November 7th, 2003, 09:22 AM thanks guys, here goes nothing!
Boyd Ostroff November 7th, 2003, 09:29 AM If you find excessive amounts of stuff accumulating there then have a look at your preferences. You can specify how often FCP autosaves, how many copies of the project it keeps, and how many projects it maintains. If you like, you can also completely disable the autosave vault as well.
The defaults are pretty generous... it keeps 40 copies of 25 projects.
Gary Chavez November 7th, 2003, 09:44 AM So now I'm thinkin here,
Is this why (since i have an "autosave" of every project i've
done so far), when FPC3 "Unexpectedly quits" losing my entire timeline, i can hit "restore project abd the audio and video magicly appear?
Boyd Ostroff November 7th, 2003, 09:59 AM Yep, but 25 copies might be a little excessive ;-) Do you get a lot of crashes?
Gary Chavez November 7th, 2003, 10:01 AM no, not very often, it looks like i have just one autosave per project.
where in prefernces do i set autovault, in scrath disc?
i just set it to mac 2 since i have almost nothing there.
im about to move all auto saved files to the trash.
good move?
Gary Chavez November 7th, 2003, 10:53 AM ok, at home mac guy came in and yes, set to 40copies.......
just got rid of 28gb of saved projects.
amazing...i still have so much to catch up on.
thanks, you guys helped me ask him the right questions.
