I am currently in the hunt for an XLR shotgun mic, but lack both knowlege and funds for now...

In the meantime, I'm wondering if an adapter exists that will allow me to use my (please don't laugh) ATR-55 with its minijack connector into an XLR (DVX100) connector.

Thanks for humoring the noob,
David

Okay, I won't laugh at the question if you don't laugh at the reply.

Radio Shack.

Radio Shack sells 1/4" to XLR adapters, and 1/8" to 1/4" adapters. Plug one into the other. It won't be pretty, but it works -- I've done it before.

You need a 1/8 stereo female to XLR male

I doubt it would work, since the mic may depend on a voltage feed from the mini jack. Is that mic battery operated? If it isn't then it wouldn't work.

Yes, the ATR-55 requires a AA battery. I assume I would turn off phantom power from the cam, correct?

Then you should be OK.

Guitar Center has them.
