Thanks for all your helpful comments!
I'm excited to report I've just ordered a Bogen Manfrotto 728B from B & H:

This seems to perfectly fit my need for a lightweight tripod for my ZR65. I originally considered purchasing the 718B because of its lighter weight:

But the B & H salesman said the 728B offered a smoother and better range of panning.

Is anyone familiar with either model? I hope I made the right choice!

Disappointingly, neither the 728B nor the 718B have a bubble level that are ever-present on cheaper, plastic models.

I would agree with the B&H salesperson. Smooth pans is a major issue with tripods and the 728 is the better choice. It is a good choice as a compromise and hopefully it won't break the budget.

Dorothy, I am thinking to buy a 728B, too. Please post some coments on it when you'll get it. I'm intersted how well does it pan/tilt.
Thanks!
