The news on a Dutch site states that AOpen is coming with a
hardware mpeg2 encoder that works over USB and has a
firewire/DV input to encode it realtime to MPEG2.

I could not find any other site with this information so I'm posting
the link to the news post. The first part is in Dutch but the second
half is in English so you should be able to understand the basic
features.

Hi.

What I could see it was an external box where you could plug in your camera into a DV/1394 port and get MPEG 1&2 out from the box via a USB2 interface.

I'm currently looking for some h/w that can help me make MPEG2 after edit on PC, and as far I can understand, this AOPEN box should do the trick ( if I play the edited AVI back to the camera, and then from camera to Aopen Box ).

Costs about 250 USD ( ... that is 2300:- SEK )

The most intersting piece of hardware I have found is the canopus MPEGPro MVR, alas no one seems to sell it - atleast not here in Sweden / EU ( pleae reply if you know more about this card )

Merry X-Mas!

Best regards,

Lars

It looks like some information for the device is now up at the
AOpen site. Look at it here (http://usa.aopen.com/products/video/vx2000s.htm)
