Hi

I just bought a Sony DCR0TVR33 DV cam. after playing around with it for a while. I noticed that the audio it records is very low.

You would have to talk right into the mic to get anything.

I have read throught the manual and found no way of turning up the mic gain. Is this normal for this camera?

Sony cameras have an auto-gain control circuit that is supposed to raise the volume of the mic if it's really quiet (and vice versa). It sometimes does a reasonable job, but when it doesn't it's really annoying. AFAIK Sony consumer cameras do not have manual audio control. Also, Sony cameras tend to record all the way up to 0dB in loud situations (0dB=the loudest you can get).

Your camera might be busted.

You're using the on-board microphone right? (on-board mics tend to suck though... :/ )

I agree. If that's the case you cam is most likely "busted."
