I am trying to export a still frame from a 1920 x 1080 timeline.

But when I export the still it exports as 1440 x 1080.

Any suggestions on why and how to get a full 1920 x 1080 still?

Is the camera original HDV or AVCHD? If so that's why. You could actually get a full 1920 "export" by simply taking a screen-shot/grab of the viewer window as you see it in FCP.

Our practice is to export as a quicktime conversion>still image, then open in photoshop, convert imagesize to 1920x1080, deinterlace, and you're done. this presumes you have adobe photoshop, of course, but that or the method suggested in the other post, a screen grab work fine. If you do the screen grab, make the image full size on your biggest monitor, capture as, preferably, an uncompressed TIFF file and you're good. What mode did you shoot with, and what are your timeline settings?
In SP mode EX1 shoots 1440 x 1080 images @ 25Mbps.

I shot in 1080 25p mode and my timeline settings are 1080 25p.

Still frames don't lie. Like someone said you need to shoot in HQ instead of SP mode.

I know this is an old thread,,, when I make a frame grab, command+shift+3, I get a .png file, instead of a TIFF file. I think I might have changed settings on Screen Grab file type somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anymore! Can someone remind me where that is?

The shortcut seems to default to ping - not sure how to change this but if you go to Applications - Utilities - Grab and use that application, it is TIFF and offers a variety of functions for screen grabs.

I also found out a way to change frame grabs to TIFF using the command +shift+3.
