I just bought a new workstation and I am installing the radeon 9600 pro video card. I've downloaded the latest driver from ATI. The problem is that XP pro wants to install the older driver automatically. I uninstall the driver from XP, reboot the system and XP automatically loads the same older driver upon startup. I've replaced drivers on XP Home previously and it gives you the option of stopping the installation by clicking the cancel button, but for some reason this pro version of XP isn't giving me that option. It only gives me a message on the taskbar notifying me that its found the driver and installing it.

Anyone know how to fix this?

The ATI driver comes as an EXE file (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-962-031202m1-012924c.exe). Just start that, follow the
instructions and reboot. That should be all.

The instructions that come with the new driver say to uninstall the old driver, reboot the system, cancel the wizard after the reboot (which I can't do) and then install the new driver. My problem is that XP is automatically installing the old driver upon reboot and I can't find a way to stop it from doing that.

Well, maybe I got lucky, I don't know, but I just decided to update the driver by installing it over the old driver and it worked. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
