Wonder if they have fix the LCD audio problem? Wonder if B&H has the new units?

Probably have to call Sony directly and ask the starting serial number at which the fix was applied.

Hey SONY.

You better say something, else the rest of us would simply put our PD-170 purchase on hold. Who knows, maybe a few of us can't wait and go elsewhere.

So speak up!

How do you expect them to notify you? Or even know that you've asked a question? I don't think they are going to be taking out newspaper ads stating that the 2100/170 are OK now.

I'd be very surprised if Sony visits this Forum on a regular basis. And if they did, I'd be very surprised if they would answer as they are lurking if they are around.

So it's really up to you to ask them directly.

I have owned a VX1000 (used for 4 years flawlessly) and currently use a PD100a with equal satisfaction...

My next purchase was going to be the PD170, but with it's apparent "delay" in working out the bugs and the positive reviews on the Panasonic DVX80 I find myself leaning toward that camera.

Like anythng else one should justify their purchases on your current needs and sales (business that is...) and not on the whims and fervor of all the new cameras coming out.

But, I must admit I find myself succumbing to the temptation of another camera and at this point the feature set and price (currently $2195 at BH) of the DVX80 may just edge out the reputation and name brand of the Sony PD170... as well as the $1000 price difference.

Sorry Mike,

Just letting off steam. They stopped selling PD-150 at B&H, so no convenient choice.

I understand, Law. I feel the same way when that happens. Letting off steam in your well-mannered way is certainly allowed.

I just read the short review of the panny 100A in DV Magazine. Although it isn't perfect and I wouldn't buy one on the strength of a review of a preproduction unit, it certainly sounds nice. Even footage markers on the focus ring.

Still, I like the PD150 price/performance and would expect the 170 to exceed that by a small amount.

good news:
replay from Sony tech guys

<I got information that there is a solution for this problem.
It will be published very soon.
When I know the details I will contact you and tell how we will handle this case.>

We had that hiss problem with one of 4 cams sold recently. They located fault and, if i understood correctly, it's easy to repair

Our distributor told us that we can expect the SONY 170's to be distributed in two weeks-end of January.

Don't hold your breath.

Thanks.

Don't mean to sound ungrateful, but where did you find this piece of info? Or is this your cam number and it works great?

I read elsewhere that someone contacted Sony
Switzerland. The word is that Sony will have a recall
plan in place by next week.
